If you want to study film
production in University of Chile, you must know that it’s a 5 year career and
the curriculum it’s separate on theorical and practical subjects, you will have
both every year. In a regular semester, the curriculum have speciality theorical
and practica in cinema (these are my favorites classes), and also has basic
formation subjects these we share with the other career, journalism. You must
know that the workload it’s get so hard in the final of the semester, because
are the final deliverys of the practical subjects, although the basic formation
subjects are an workload too, because are difficult (at least for me).
Likewise, the're somethings that
I would like to change in the study programme. Before I was a student of here I
loved the curruculum, but I would have liked to knew somethings before, don’t
misunderstand me, I’m still loving my carrer but they are a few things that I think
it’s not to good. For me, It’s the basic formation subjects. I understand that
it’s necessary to learn theoric information about communication, but always I
feelt that they're more focused in the journalism than cinema, and this kind of
preference makes so hard to follow the courses. It´s a lot to read, to write
and the test are always the same. It’s been the same method in this 3 years on
the most of FB courses. So, If this teaching methods or the tests at least, are
more neutral between both career, it would be easier to follow for the film
production students. Also, something that I would change too it´s the order of
some courses of cinema. They´reimportants subjects that it teaching too late,
for example: We learning production in 3rd year, but the first shortfilm we
filming it’s in 2nd year, so it’s so frustrating and chaotic do production work
only with your intuition and youtube
tutorials, because we can made a lot of
innecesary mistakes that can were avoied if they are taught us production
before. But this it´s a curriculum problem, because the production teachers are
really good. Actually, the teachers in general are good, professionals, and
also empathethic. In my experiences, they always were empathetic with the
students and I am so gratefull for that.
In the other side the faculty
it’s not to big, it has 2 principal buildings for the only 2 carrers, so that
it’s the reasons why ICEI it’s small, and even if it’s not to esthetical, I
like the place. My favourite site of the faculty it’s the Hoyo because I like
the paintings of chilean movies that are in the walls, and also I have good
memories with my friends and classmates
here. And with respect of the technology, the faculty of cinema have something
calls “pañol” here the're all the crew necessary to make an audiovisual piece.
There sound and photography equipment, lightbags, tripods and more. Some of the
equipment its aged, but they keep working.
